Moving with Pets |
 |
| Over 50% of all households
own pets. Traveling with a pet used to be
an unforgettable |
| experience. First
there were the health certificates and vaccinations
to get, then you had to |
| carefully plan your
trip around your pet, hoping you covered everything.
When you finally |
| arrive the only lodging
with a vacancy didn't allow pets and you beat
the moving van by |
| three days. |
 |
| There is a solution
to make your move less stressful. We recommend
placing your pets |
| in the safe hands
of a pet carrier. Here are a few good choices
when you need to relocate |
| your family's furry
loved one(s)! |
 |
|
 |
| If you are traveling
by car and moving your pet yourself, planning
ahead for the security of |
| your pets will make
your move less stressful. Invest in a high-quality,
sturdy pet carrier so |
| they are safely confined
during the drive. Plan ahead so they are adjusted
to spending time |
| in it. If your pet
doesn't enjoy car rides; consult your veterinarian
about behavior |
| modification or medication
that might lessen the stress of travel. Depending
on your |
| destination, your
pet may also need additional vaccinations,
medications, and health |
| certificates. Never
leave pets alone in a parked vehicle during
warm weather or leave |
| them in the bed of
a pickup truck as they are vulnerable to being
harmed or stolen. |
 |
| As soon as you know
your new address, get a pet ID tag that includes
your new address |
| and telephone number(s).
An up-to-date ID tag is a lost pet's ticket
home. Also have on |
| hand a recent photo
of your pet, for use if your pet becomes lost. |

| Be prepared to have
the necessary things your pet will need from
day one in your new |
| home: food, water,
medications, bed, litter box, and health records.
|
 |
| If your pet will
be flying, you should check with the Department
of Agriculture and your |
| veterinarian to ensure
your pet’s safety. |
